Projects in 2009

  • Technology Assessment Arsenic Removal Bangladesh

    On June 19th a report was issued on an assessment of technologies for the removal of arsenic contamination from well water in Bangladesh.
    The report was made by Dorota Juchniewicz  for her graduation as chemical engineer at Grenoble University in France.
    The work was supervised by Allerd Stikker.
    EMF is working with a US Foundation called Clean Water Foundation (CWF) to make clean drinking water from contaminated , used by 49 million people in Bangladesh, a very major and disastrous problem.
    The study found the technology of Voltea, a Venture company of Unilever Ventures, the most reliable and versatile technique available.

    EMF and CWF will develop a rural village program for 2010.
     

  • Development of a practical guidebook for provision of clean drinking and sanitation water for religion related schools in developing countries. 
     
    Partners are IRC (International Water and Sanitation Centre, in NL) and ARC (Alliance of Religions and Conservation, in the UK).

Projects between 2003 – 2008

  • Development of a Micro Water Facility (MWF) to broker between water technology inventors, NGO´s, Financial institutions, donors and local communities in developing countries, introducing small scale drinking/ and sanitation water techniques for the poor. MWF was formally created as a not for profit foundation in August 2007. 
     
    Partners are Aqua4All, Aid Environment, Adessium Foundation and Entrepreneur Fund (Brenninkmeijer).

  • Four 6 parts TV documentaries series on water issues in developing countries׃

      o      “A Drop of life” (2000)

      o      “A Dollar a Day” (2005)

      o      “Private sector projects in developing countries” (2005)

      o      “Blue Gold” (2008)

    Participants among others: Vitens, Rabobank Foundation, TNT, Friesland Foods, Unilever, Heineken, SNS Water Fund, Waterschapsbank, DOB Foundation and others.


Projects between 1999 – 2003

  • CEO Panel for Industry and Water at the World Water Fora in The Hague (2000) and Kyoto (2003). 
     
    Partners were Unilever, Suez, Veolia, Thames Water, Heineken, Nuon, ITT, Rabobank, CH2MHill, Royal Haskoning and 3 Japanese Companies.

  • Development of a new ecologically acceptable and economically sound technology for desalination of brackish and salt water (Memstill). 
     
    Partners were TNO, Heineken, Evides, E.On, Waternet (formerly Gemeentelijk Waterleiding Bedrijf Amsterdam, GWA), Seghers Keppel and Technical University Twente.

  • Development of Environmental Performance Indicators (EPI) for corporations.

    Parners were: Coopers & Lybrand, Nuon and AKZO.
