What do we do

Developing and promoting large and small scale ecologically sound desalination technologies.

Combatting world water scarcity through appropriate technical, commercial, financial and social
innovation in both developed and developing countries.

Initiating TV documentaries on water issues.

Networking and cooperating with international partner organisations.

Supporting other initiatives related to the above issues.

The following selected list of actual projects that have been initiated by EMF since 1990 gives an indication of the scope of activities:

  • Development of specific methodologies for environmental performance indicators for industry
     
  • Design of an environmental performance indicator program for an electricity distributing company
     
  • Design of an environmental credit rating methodolgy for a bank

  • Initiating and assisting in production of a 6 parts documentary "water, a drop of life"
     
  • Promotion of new accessible seawater desalination technologies, ecologically and economically superior to conventional technologies, both on large and small scale
     
  • International promotion of the Integrated Water Resource Management Concept, including desalinated brackish and seawater
     
  • Promotion of horticulture in the Caribbean area by desalination of brakish and seawater
     
  • Initiating and coordinating a Business and Industry CEO Panel on water, consisting of 13 major multinationals at the World Water Fora in The Hague in 2000 and in Kyoto in 2003
     
  • Supporting and assisting the initiative of the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) with respect to sustainable management of natural resources
     
  • Contributing regularly to professional magazines and books in the field of corporate social responsibility in sustainability issues
